Muscadine grapes, rabbiteye and southern highbush blueberries, mulberries and kiwi vines produce generously, and pecans grow to full size. Bamboo and flowering trees give quick shade and screening.

Plant in fall or winter while the weather is cool. Low-chill varieties are essential for stone fruit and apples in Zone 9, and blueberries need acidic soil and steady moisture. Mulch heavily and water deeply through the long summer.
