Zone 7 is home ground for us: our north Georgia nursery sits in it, so everything we grow is trialed in a Zone 7 winter before it ships. Winters here bottom out around 0° to 10°F, typical of north Georgia, Tennessee, the Carolina Piedmont, Virginia, Arkansas, Oklahoma, north Texas and the mid-Atlantic coast. What grows well in Zone 7
Peaches, plums, apples and pears are the heart of a Zone 7 orchard, and figs, Asian and American persimmons, pomegranates and jujubes fruit reliably without protection. Muscadine and bunch grapes, rabbiteye blueberries and blackberries produce heavily, and pecans are the signature nut tree. Dogwoods, flowering trees, oaks and clumping bamboo suit the landscape.
Planting tips for Zone 7
Fall is the best planting season in Zone 7: roots grow all winter in our mild soil and the tree hits spring already established. Match peaches and apples to the zone's chill hours, plant blueberries in acidic soil, and water deeply through the first summer's heat.
